Even though the streets are littered with spray painted walls, Chania is as breathtaking as can be.

Its history dates back to the Ottoman Empire, where you can find ancient Turkish baths now turned into fine dining restaurants. You can spend hours walking through hundreds of alley ways that are scattered with gorgeous art, delicious food and plenty of knick knack shops. Not to mention incredible ancient ruins that are tucked into every nook and cranny in the city (where you can explore freely). The alley ways are connected to an ancient Venetian harbor showcasing the beautiful Venetian Lighthouse. There is so much to do and see in Chania; including the Saturday street air market, car races, concerts and more. I can’t get enough of this vibrant city and its phenomenal history!

If you’re looking for a great little city in Crete with tons of history to explore for a few days to a week, Chania is your place. Check out Rethymno – another Venetian harbor east of Chania! Looking for a day-trip destination by the beach? Check out Platanias, the cute little beach town only 15 minutes away from Chania!
